Hollywood gives advice?
So after reading the article below (see Read More) I threw up. I threw up all night long. Could have been a stomach flu considering the accompanying chills, fever, and body aches. But that's beside the point. Why do we take advice from celebrities?
It must be because they have such a healthy perspective on life. I mean they never divorce, never abuse drugs and alcohol, never engage in adultery, never break the law, never forget to pay their taxes, never have insecurities, never are depressed, never suffer from bulimia/ anorexia, and most importantly they are always appreciative, humble and obviously satisfied with their good looks. Right? Apparently not.
Then it must be because they are so in touch and experienced with the average problems facing middle and lower class America. Nicolas Cage lost two homes in foreclosure people! And I'm guessing in this economy that Ashlee Simpson is probably having to forgo an extra pair of combat boots and checkered suspenders to buy milk and diapers for her little tyke Bronx Mowgli (see:100 weirdest celebrity baby names). Probably not.
So why is anyone looking to these people for guidance on our morals, politics, and behaviors? Let's go back to the article I originally mentioned featuring Jennifer Lopez. She states ""I think I've finally learned the biggest lesson of all, you've got to love yourself first. You've got to be okay on your own before you're okay with someone else. You've got to value yourself and know that you're worth everything. And until you value yourself enough and love yourself enough to know that, you can't really have a healthy relationship." Says the woman with 3 divorces under her belt.
Anyone who has a pea rattling in their skull knows that the primary component to a lasting relationship is a willingness to put yourself aside out of love for another. That is true love. Sure it's great to have enough confidence to not rely on our spouse to define ourselves. That puts a load of pressure on our partners to complete our picture, leads to stress, leads, to fighting, leads to break ups. However the mindset of "I'm worth it" and "I'm first" is a complete set up for failure. It's setting an impossible bar for our spouses that if they're not making me feel how I think I deserve to feel then this relationship isn't working. The article should be titled "How to be Divorced Like Me!" I'm only 24 and I've already had a relationship longer than any of JLO's.

Another entertaining example of how Celebrities are just like us is America's darling, Kanye West. Now the fact that any celebrity would attend a rally pretending to be a part of the 99% is quite a riot! Not to mention the fact that Kanye was gracious enough to lend the flashiness of his dope Givenchy Swagger to bring attention to the cause (see: Kanye West Visits Occupy Wallstreet).Yes, you absolutely represent the middle class! High Five from Main Street USA! How about put the money where the mouth is and redistribute it to those who aren't artistically brilliant enough to write lyrics like "Take your diamonds off and throw 'em up like you bulimic" (Kanye West, Diamonds From Sierra Leone). I'm not commenting on the Occupy protests only the fact that any celebrity would kid themselves to think they are a part of it and not a target of it.
I better wrap up. My point is that celebrities are not well rounded individuals, they are not good role models in almost any sense except to entertain, and never would I want to be like one. Except to own their closets/homes/cars. We are the 99%!!!

Autumn Splendor
Well I'm tearing through the Chai tea and spicy Yankee Candles. The annual trip to Apple Hill, our regional cluster of apple farms, has been made. And the comfort foods are flying off the stove. Cioppino, chicken noodle soup, penne bolognese, and a couple of McDonalds slip-ups to be sure. But tis the season to craft. It is the time of year when I feel most inspired. Maybe it just seems natural to want to go along with all the natural beauty that is flourishing everywhere.
I wanted to create something that would capture the essence of how I feel at this time of year so I created the following piece:

So Long Summer!
When the sunlight starts hitting that angle through my windows that lets me know that it's fall, I get in an entirely different mood. The world just seems more romantic and mysterious. It's automatically time to start making Halloween projects and lighting spicy candles. I have a carton of Oregon chai ready to go in my fridge and rice crispy treats are on the counter. Best of all, the trail that I hike a couple times a week is laden with golden oak leaves and has that grassy berry smell of California.

Me Like Make Pretty
Lately I've been really interested in exploring beauty and makeup in particular. As a crafter, I like making things pretty, and if I can help myself then all the better. Back in high school I would rock out bright green glittered eyes to school, crimp my hair, and round in out with a sparkly pair of jeweled earrings that would hit my shoulders. Extravagant yes, but I kind of miss it. So I have been picking out fun bits and pieces here and there and this week I bought something that I've never had the gall to try. BRIGHT RED LIPSTICK!!!
I got my hands on the limited addition Moulin Rouge lipstick from Make Up Forever:
Rock Princess
Country Life
October 31st
Toy Story
Happy Hauntings
Winter Frolic
Straight From the Nest
So to round off the month of August we took our fourth and final trip to Disneyland since we purchased annual passes last September. We got some pretty sweet hotel deals and were able to stay at the Grand Californian Hotel that is centrally located in the park. In addition, my friend, her husband, and their two little boys came with us along with my wonderful Grandpa. We had so much fun! I was also able to capture some footage of the new World of color show:
It was very awe inspiring. The affects they were able to create with water, color, and light were unlike anything I've ever seen. And I also got to ride one of my favorite roller coasters ever, Screamin!
So lots of fun stuff to play around with and share coming soon! And if you're feeling fine then go slap on some red lips and blue eyes!
